Franklin..... Because many of us where following Phil's trip with interest and a yearning to be there with them, I for one would appreciate knowing how things worked out. Your two word response to Jack leaves one to think tradegy struck. If nothing else, please tell us if they returned home safely. Thanks, Dick

Phils Trip...

I just got back at work offshore about an hour ago. Dont know how it ended up. Last I heard was about a week and and a half ago or so when he was in Appachacola Fl. He sent out an e-mail to several people. I spoke to HERBPARSONS ( who is also on this site regularly) last week, he too was not able to get in touch with Phil. Sorry I cant be of more help.

Haven't Heard Yet

I haven't heard from Phil yet, but do know that about the first of the month (December) he called to let me know he'd have his boat back in Slidell around the 15th (my boat was at his dock, so he was politely letting me know I needed to find a new home for it). Mine wasn't quite ready to motor yet, so we had it towed to its new slip. That was on the 7th. I don't like to meddle in folks' business if they want to be left alone (or appear to want to be left alone), but if no one hears from him by the end of the month, I'll get my wife to give his sister a call.

I deleted two of my responses. After all, I wouldn't say anything to upset the board for the board to delete it :)

Things seem to be getting out of hand here........

Franklin's two word response was simply, "Don't ask." That's all he said, nothing more, nothing less. While it would be nice to know how things worked out, hey, if the guy doesn't want to say then to heck with it. Let's go sailing..... Dick s/v CD EXPRESS

Maybe Franklin was referring to a story I told him

Its a long story and I hate typing,so I will leave a lot out. The last real communications I had with Phillip was when I was supposed to help him and Lois move the boat. We had discussed this for a long while, since Phillip and I and Helen were friends. We were in constant telephone communication. I was working on contract in south Tx. (Ingleside, near Corpus Christi. The plan was that as soon as the contract ended, me and my GF would go meet him where ever the boat was and take it on back with him. We were in constant communication. Finally, a week ahead of my end of contract ending, I gave him the exact date. We discussed that we would be in constant touch so I could meet him anywhere he wanted. My GF was very excited about the trip because this was to be her first really long trip. From The east coast of Florida down to the keys, then the Dry Tortugas and then to his home in Slidell, La. My contract was to end on a Saturday morning. We discussed on the previous Thurs night that I would get off work Sat. morning and drive back to my boat in Kemah, Tx. about a 4 hour drive. ( we are live aboards). Sunday morning we would drive to Ms. and be there Sun. night( about a 10 hour drive). Then head to Florida Monday morning and meet him Monday night. We confirmed this with him again Fri. night. OK, so now its Sat. I leave work as planned and go to Kemah, Tx. as planned. I tried several timed to call Phillip and left several messages. We planned on renting a car one-way so I wouldnt have to return to my vehicle. We were going to rent a car in either Gulfport, Ms. or Mobile, Al. My Gf spent as lot of time searching for rental companies. The rental agencies needed a destination town before they would give us the car. So we kept calling and calling and calling Phillip and no answer. Keep in mind that tomorrow morning we have to get up early and head to Ms. My GF had her car packed and ready before I even got back from Kemah. All i had to do in the morning was wake up and drive. Finally Sat. evening. Phillip called.... A few days earlier, he had met his GF's sister and husband in Fl. where they lived. They had never sailed before and now they were going to make make some of the trip with him. So, we now have a packed car, my GF bough new outfits and baggage for the trip, I told my boss to send someone else on another contract instead of me. Soooooooooo. All dressed up and nowhere to go. Now, I'm out of work for three weeks, Gf's feelings were very hurt, we made no Thanksgiving plans ( Thanksgiving was that week) and so, that was that. And that was my last rel communication with him.

Tony!!

Dude!! I AM sorry to hear about the plans with Phil, but consider this: You have a boat. You have blue water experience. Your beatuiful boat is in Kemah, and has Galveston Bay right next to it, with the Gulf of Mexico beckoning beyond that. You have a beautiful woman who talks with a southern drawl that makes up for that nasty Brooklyn accent of yours. Go sailing man!!!!

Thanks for all of your replys.

I guess I was hoping for a good ending, maybe some day Phil will fill (No pun intended) in the blanks. At this point if I hear he plans another long trip...with a gurl...around the end of the year, I will scream, "DON'T DO IT!" Jack

Herb !!!

I could care less about the 'cancellation' especially knowing the time of year. The bad part was this was going to be Helen's first really long trip. She was very excited about t. She had the car packed and ready before I got home. She bought some new clothes and soft baggage for the trip. She was bragging to her family and friends about this trip and how excited she was. Then all of a sudden, nothing. It was embarasing for her and that really hurt me. Even up to the last minute before he called, we planned on using our car for the trip, leaving it somewhere in Fl.and then going back to get it Because it was getting too late for a rental car especially during Thanksgiving week. I was now out of work for 3 weeks because they already sent someone to replace me. That was OK with me because i wanted to start building a small woodworking shop again anyway. For me it worked out. Helen will never forgive Phillip. All he had to do was tell Lois's sister that they already had plans. Do I still have a Bklyn accent? Thought I lost it in Arkansas, even Jackhartjr called me TonyBob at the top of this post. Now THATS southern. Happy New Year to you and say hi to your lovely wife. Hopeing you make it to Kemah someday soon when Im around, which is rare.I'm ffshore tonite, have high speed internet, but no phone....go figure. HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL Tony B

No Offense Intended

Tony my friend, I DO hope you realize I was trying to take the "look at the positives" side of things! Tell Helen that if/when you guys are ready for a trip again, and are willing to use Hat Trick (assuming you haven't changed the name yet), let me know. Gini and I will find the time! BTW, got a new "toy" from Gini for Christmas. A (reasonably) low mileage, just about showroom quality '91 GL1500 Gold Wing. Gini and I took a trip to see her son and the grandkids during their vacation in NE Texas (Lake Texoma). I suspect that when the weather starts getting warmer, she'll be ready for a trip to Kemah.

Herb !!!

I'd call if I had a telephone out here. No offense taken, never was. Anyway, have fun on the Gold Wing. Currently, I'm planning on taking off to somewhere, anywhere, around late Sept. till probably March or April. All depends on how fast we run out of money. I cant believe I said that, coming from Mr. Conservative, the responsible one. I usually tell people at work that I work to finance my next vacation. I.m past the 'savings' thing. Never worked out for me. After Katrina, and losing everything, friends would say, "gee, i feel so bad for you", I would tell them that i was divorced twice, I'm used to starting over again. LOL. Anyway, you folks have a nice Holiday and I WILL let u and Ginny know well in advance. maybe you could make sections of the trip. BTW, where is your boat right now? Isnt a Gold Wing a land version of a Jet Ski?
