Love the Corsair. My Uncle was the CO of the test pilot program at China Lake. Had his own Corsair. Was not much room but he took me up for a circle of the airport (much to my Mothers dismay). It was so cool. Had no idea how cool till I got into High School and started learning about stuff like history and aviation. Then I just said WOW!

I was only six. Damn, you guys are old. I remember it very clearly. I don't know which mission, but we ran out into the road and could see the contrail from across the state with my father's binoculars. Then, we tried seeing the flag on the moon. I couldn't see it but my friend swore he could.
And, OF COURSE I WANTED TO BE AN ASTRONAUT! :plus:
I use to build and shoot off model rockets. Had one that looked like the Blackbird. Didn't fly like it though:wahwah:.

From Pensacola Class 09-71.
Mine in two summers. 08-69 and 08-70. Thus at 10:53 EST July 21, 1969, I saw a Naval Aviator put his foot down on the Moon. Made me proud to be a Naval Aviator [in the making].:D
Jim...

PS: We are going back to the Moon.

Estes? I had a few of those. even built a few multi stage rockets and had the nosecone camera that tripped when the chute came out at the apex of flight. cool stuff. they were still in business a few years ago. not sure now however.

Estes is still alive and well. I’m building the Estes Saturn V even as we speak. I had the Camroc and the Cineroc when I was in middle school. Got great images from both.

I watched that first step on the moon two days after my 19th birthday. My dad worked for Ford Aerospace at Vandenberg. Whenever there was a launch like that at the cape he was sent there for support. It was an exciting time.

P.S. Youth is wasted on the young.

Watched the Space X Heavy today.. pretty ! Amazing to see the two boosters come back and land at the Cape.
Quite a ways from Sputnik .. I was 9 when I watched it overhead, early one October morning here in South Louisiana.. Wanted to be an Aerospace Engineer but in 1972, when I got out of the Navy, all the Aero guys were bagging groceries because the projects were being "un-funded" .. Changed to Mech Eng, and found employment..

I worked for awhile at Bell Aerosystems in Wheatfield N.Y. where many parts for the Apollo rocket were manufactured. One of the more unique projects was building the moon landing training vehicle. Looked similar but cabin was built out of a blue styrofoam for easy access in case on an accident.

When my divorce hit I needed something to help me and 2 boys occupy visitation nights and weekends. A lot of my time and money was launched downrange for a few years. my9 year old still talks about being lookout as we climbed on the roof of the local high school looking for our favourite rocket. Some great memories and adventures.

Well, he was 9 then, 29 now.
You get a double like. Triple really. For doing cool things with kids at that age, still fondly remembering the good times and surviving the divorce for 20 years.

I met Buzz Aldrin once. A work thing - he had an idea that he wanted developed. Amazing to have met one of 12 people that have walked on another world.

Oh... and I was so geeked out yesterday. THIS IS REAL! It's not a photoshop....

Who knew way back when that Heavy Metal would be closer to reality than 2001.
