Best of luck to all of you. Marlyn and I plus the cat and dog are on our boat pending a return home to Crestline/Lake Gregory. Figuring sometime next week. We sure are fortunate to have somewhere to go that's 'our own'. This is the third time; first was the Northridge earthquake and the second was the 'Old Fire' in the mountains. I've learned to keep the tanks topped off and the boat well supplied. Anyhow, good luck and if you lost your house, may you get back on your feet just as soon as possible. Rick D.

Rick, how about your house?

How close is your place to the projected path (if there is such a thing)?

The mandatory evac line...

Is creeping closer to me. This is the results of the Rice Canyon fire jumping I-15 and heading west. I too am lucky that I have a "floating hotel", though not as comfortable being only 27 feet, but it is a place to lay me head. I added a link to the latest (dynamic) google map of the fires.

We Think We Are OK....

...I just saw a post from a club member who's the fire chief. He's 'cautiously optimistic' since winds have abated enough for air support. We are about one to two miles from the fire; not far enough to be comfortable yet but feeling pretty good that things may be turning for the better. Thanks for asking. Just got my new laptop set up. I heard from Pheobe1

He lives in Stevenson Ranch, they are all ok, he is probably busy putting horses back where they belong, he spent the fire evacuating the stables in his area *5 I got a phone call mon night to go to Chatsworth, but fortunately the fire died down and didn't reach Porter Ranch. Our thoughts are with anyone still in the path. Tim

We are praying with you.

I can't imagine a worse terror than what is happening in Southern Califonia at this time. Our thought and prayers are with you all. From your neighbours to your North. Take care. Ken & crew.

Glad to hear everyone is OK

My brother-in-law lives in Carlsbad and it looks pretty good there too, for now. Hang in there everyone and enjoy your bonus time on the water. We're pullin' for ya up here.

That's Me, Dan!

I REALLY hate those things ;{ However, I found some old-style funnels which I put on the CARB jugs. Much safer. I guess I'll have to take a trip out of state to replace them if I have to in the future. The newer ones may be better; I'll let others experiment. Rick D.

Smoke

My sister called and asked about my boats. I said, "They're surrounded by water. What about me? Am choking from smoke and watching my state burn". The smoke was blown out to see by the Santa Anas. Now the regular onshore breeze is bringing it all back in. Annapolis is looking better all the time.

Peggie, I recall Steve is in Rio Vista

on the Sacramento River between San Francisco and Sacramento. No fires up here, yet... Those Dion guys really get around! :) I was Irvine yesterday, not good air, but the fires were getting handled. FEMA, I hear is doing its usually horrible act again - only saving grace is th firemen, police officers and neighbors are really helping. Just privatizing the government's "Office of Helpful Affairs." How kind...

That's good to know...

For some reason I thought Rio Vista was near LA and got a bit worried when he hadn't shown up here since the fires started. Btw, Stu...from all the reports I've seen, nobody seems to want or need FEMA. Unlike the people in NO, they're all looking after each other instead of waiting for the gov't to do it for 'em.

better prep

Peggy, Local governments spend a lot of time and resouces here in So Cal practicing for things just like this. You have to in Earthquake Country. I work for a local city and have to carry a card to get across emergency lines, as I have to report to work in the event of a disaster.

Rick...

I use a Blitz jug and a WM filter funnel to fuel up. I bought the filter funnel and a second nozzle and cut off the nozzle end with the auto shut-off function after the "proper" one hung up in the deck fill and caused a small spill. I suspect the nozzle is the CARB design you referred to. Lousy design!

Yep, Lousy Design...

...I have spilled more and caused way more pollution with these designs than I ever did with the "non-compliant" ones. I figure the big bosses never actually tried the designs they signed off on and the minions just told them what they wanted to hear. If they were not so dangerous, it would be funny. Rick D.

CARB design stinks

and Chuck Hawley of West Marine finally got around to telling them so after detailed testing and complaints by customers who had no choice but to buy what is an essentially faulty and useless product. Think anybody'd listen? Kinda like FEMA, except our taxes have NOT gone down. THAT just doesn't seem right. As Peggie says, now we're having to do it all for ourselves. It's right that people care. Do we get a rebate for lack of services? Why is anybody paying for FEMA salaries? If our taxes went down, that'd be a good start. Think that'll ever happen? What with "fees" now being imposed for just about everything (and NOT called taxes), and the government finally figuring out they're running out of money because they are lying about a little mis-adventure some 7,000 miles away, I am sure we small fry are ALL gonna pay big new tax bucks for nothing in return, while those who got their tax "breaks" six years ago laugh all the way to the bank. Oh, and they're the same ones that make the case that the people whose homes got burned down had the nerve, the nerve I tell you, to actually build there in the first place. Hypocrites...
