Alan, you mentioned you set up a mast head spinnaker, obviously added a larger spinnaker, etc. How is the performance compared to your fractional rig location? Any surprises? Chaos

Initial trials where very encouraging. Boat speed was definitely up in the lighter air. The cut of the new spinnaker allowed us to sail deeper with a higher fuller sail. However, we're doing more testing to learn all the fast buttons on this new setup. We're also playing with the idea of a belly button line to aid in dousing faster. The douse is the point where significant gains can be made.

Question

Alan- Have you had any problems with the halyard or chute fouling on your jumpers? I would think that would become an issue. Also, what was your rating hit?

Re: Question

So far the jumper has been a non issue. The spinnaker flies far enough away to have not been a problem, hoist and douse either. As for the rating, we shortened the girth to maintain the same sail area. Instead of 180% we brought it down to about mid 150's. A number of boats have gone to or are considering sprit poles and are also under review and I'm waiting to see what rule they come up with.
