Foot slug

We removed the bolt rope from the boom. There's a white plastic slug at the aft end that is in the book track, and the out haul is stiff as the angle of the slide is interfering with the load angle on the sail and it is hard to move. This will wear it out in no short order.
What is anybody using for this application?

Velcro strap, through the clew eye and around the boom. Stronger and less friction.

I use the velcro for the strap when reefed. works great
