Tim

You are doing a great job. I decided not to replace my bulkheads, as there was no signs of rot or deterioration, so will just re-finish and spend more time on other projects. This boat was only used 2 months a year all of its life. At 4200' elevation in Oregon the season is only June & July, August the lake becomes to shallow for keel boats, it snows here until May.... Michael..

The previous owner re-cored using west system, he did a very nice job. I only have to fair a little and re-install all hardware and paint. Will be using Dyneema for the life lines, have great sucess with this material. This O Day has never seen saltwater before, so should be in very good condition. My Atomic bomb has a complete re-build with about 15 minutes on this new build. Can you believe that this boat was given to me????? as in free...... Michael..
It looks as though he used ply rather than balsa. Is that the case? Also interested in the Dyneema.
You got one heck of a deal! I bet you'll love the way she sails too.

Well, I'm doing my best considering it's been a few years and the bod doesn't as easily get into tight places as it used to.
Boomer has taken a beating over the and as you well know seeing the complete structure unveils the sins of the past.
The nice thing about this boat is that access is not that tough. I did have to make a couple of holes in the cabin sole but everything else is easy. Got about two more weeks and then it's over to the stbd. side.

brought My O Day 27 Home From The Warehouse This Weekend To Start The Re-fit And Paint. The Only Problem Is That Last Night It Snowed Again. Sunshine Again In Two Day's. The Deck Has Been Re-done And Just Needs A Little Fairing And Paint. Michael..

Yes, but had to order a new main sail, all sails are race quailty.. This boat was raced on the lake here for it's life, now will be broke in for ocean cruising, most likely be heading for La Paz this fall.. Michael..

Installing first so I can see the old holes, then remove to paint.. The holes were expoxy filled, I guess I'll re-drill then paint, that way I can use existing holes in the liner.. I alway's have to do it the hard way, that's just my luck w/boats.. Michael..

Are you planning to put the hardware back on before you paint?
No, just need to locate and drill the holes, paint, then re-install. Was fairing yesterday and stepped off the scaffold planks, 6' fall on my head, but didn't get hurt. Time to slow down and not get to excited..... Michael...

I have had many stupid mistakes over the years myself but I saw a guy die once who fell on his head like that. Just a safety suggestion, OSHA requires workers to be tied off above 6 feet for fall protection. You might want to wear a harness and tether, if you don't have them tie a line around yourself at least and tie it to something solid.

Be careful Michael. Wouldn't do to have done all this nice work and not get to enjoy it. There are plenty of lesser ways to appease the gods of restoration.

Hi Tim, This heat wave has slowed down the progress, but is cooling down this next week. Has been 105 here for a week and normal is 85, killing me.... Really odd for this part of the country.. Hope to stay on schudule and be in MB before the end of Oct. Really need to leave Coos Bay by the end of Sept, I hate big following sea's.. 16' is about all I want at my age, Cape Blanco & Cape Mendoncino can be bad at that time of the year... Will keep you posted.... Michael..

HiMichael,
Wondering how your boat's coming. Still up at the lake? Also wondering if you had any advice on getting a trailer for the oday 27. I'm continuing to work on Boomer ...slow but sure. Be testing the bulkheads, shroud backing plates, and new genoa in a couple of weeks.
Cheers,
Tim
