I removed my old Garelick motor mount and bought a new heavy duty Garelick mount for my 9.9 4-Stroke engine. The footprint of the mounting bracket to attach the mount to the transom is the same for both brackets, however, the handle of the new mount hits the transom so I can not mount the bracket flush with the transom. I assume I will have to create a spacer in order to mount the new mount. I have seen fiberglass wedges on a couple of boats in the marina and went looking for them at Boat US and West Marine. They didn't know what I was talking about. Does anyone know where these are available? These definately looked store bought, not home made. Has anyone else mounted this type bracket on a 25? It is the 71090 model. I called Garelick for technical assistance, but the person who answered was not very helpful, and could not refer me to anyone who could help. At Boat US the manager tried to call Garelick, but only ended up with the same person I got.... I need to solve this dilema so I can get CHEDLO into the water, so any help and advice you folks can offer will be appreciated. Ed

Just went through the same thing.
I bought a piece of Trex decking from home depot. I used two pieces at the top bolt holes and one piece at the bottom bolt holes. I planed them to the angle that I thought would work. Something to remember here is that the angle will drop the motor deeper in the water. I mounted my mount close to stern and near the old bolt holes. (I eliminated the wedge) However that kicked the motor up and the top of the prop was at about the same height as the water line. That is why I installed the Trex wedges. r.w.landau

I wonder if the mount is defective
The handle of the mount will not allow it to attach to the transom without a shim or spacer since it is 2 inches in front of the mounting plate -- unless the handle is above the transom -- and that will be too high. That doesn't make sense. Even if I had a flat transom, it would not fit. I emailed Garelick but have not heard from them yet. R.W.-- did you install a Garelick? Did you notice if the handle was even with the mounting bracket? As you can see, I am a little frustrated with this.

ED, I still have the boat in the driveway so I tyook two pictures. One left on right. This will is my temp solution to get the boat in the water this year. I have a Merc 8 and the handle is 2" short of clearing the stern. I think the prop will be buried in the water pretty good though. Hope this helps. I will post twice. Thank you for the info. I called the dealer at C-Me Marine and he verified that my mount is the normal set up. I think I will try the set up like the temp one you have and try to find a better solution for next year. I will post pictures of my job when it is finished. Ed

Motor Mount Spacer
I just mounted a Honda 8hp 4 cycle using the Garlick offshore bracket. I got several pieces of scrap marine board about the size of the foot print of the mount. The material is very slippery so I put two thin 3 inch bolts thru them to make a solid block. Because the transom is a foward angle, I shaped my block in a wedge shape using a portable power planer. When I lower the motor it is verticle. All the outboards I know only allow you to adjust for a backward slope of the transom. I was suprised how easy the material is to form in the shape I needed. Don't get suckered in to using the old holes in the transom. When you lower the motor it may not be positioned low enough. The mount directions says to measure the motor from just under the mounting fitting to the first captaviting plate, add this measurement to a figure they give you to determine where to mount the bracket. I hung my bracket from the stern rail and was able to adjust the placement of the wedge. I did this all with the boat in the water. The off shore bracket is excellent. I can raise my outboard which weighs 110 lbs with no trouble. Marine board is supposed to be indestructable but it only comes in 3/4 or 1 inch thickness and has to be bolted together if you want to work with it. The bracket needs to have a spacer between it and the transom because the handle will be right up against the transom and you will not be able to grab the handle.
