A while back I posted a message on what to use to replaced an old flex drain pipe used to drain the deck that is located by the tiller. The drain pipe is located below deck and diverts the water out the drain located on the back of the sailboat. The water line is almost at the same level as the drain, so it is critical that drain pipe does not leak. After receiving a suggestion to use a automobile radiator hose since the flex drain hose is not being made any more for the 1986 Hunter 23, I went under the deck and remove the hose to take to the auto parts store for a good fit. To my suprise, the hose crumbled into my hands. There is no doubt in my mind that if something below deck bumped the hose very hard while tied to the bouy, the boat might be partially submerged after a couple days. The sailboat has alway been in fresh water. Well, I headed for the auto parts store and found that there is no trouble in finding the right length and diameter hose (also flex) to match the crumbled drain pipe. In fact there were hoses a little bit longer or shorter if you wanted it. The total price including stainless steel clamps was less than $20. If you do have one of these older sailboats and it's out of the water, pull on the drain hose. The drain pipe I had only had signs of possible leak long ago that appeared to be sealed up. The pipe appeared to have plenty of life left, but I was wrong.

Same problem

Had the same problem. Our boat was on a trailer in the driveway. We had some bad storms. Lot of rain. I went to get a sail out of the boat for repair and found that the drain hose had cracked and put 6" of rain water in the boat. I repaired it the same way you did. At least I know the hull doesn't leak.
