While having a new cable made for our '98 Furler instead of having a thimble swagged in as it had been, we decided on a "Marine Eye" West Marine (model # 113656, pg. 1011, 2004 catalog) as long as the Eye body fits the 3/8 hole in the furler top fitting, it will spin around it much easier and with no flexing while furling and unfurling, or in the wind, and should last much longer. If you don't have a second safety cable on the mast as I did, you would be looking at colateral damage along with possible mast replacement/repair.
