Simple question but, the boat we just bought has the folding wheel. On the large plastic turn knob (technical term ?), there are round balls on elastic cord I assume are for securing the handle in place when folded. I could not figure out where they hook onto. Thanks, Scott

Scott: The two elastic cords (with balls attached) on our wheel, each have doubled cords. It appears that they are designed to have a ball from one doubled cord captured in between the doubled cords holding the other ball, in order to lock the wheel in the folded position. Our new wheel is stiff enough when folded that we have not yet had to use the balls and cords to secure it.

Just Lock Wheel

My o4 H-36 has a folding wheel with no balls. Before I fold the wheel I center wheel and lock it in place. No cords are then not required.

Round Balls

Are they used to protect the end of the stainless rods when the wheel is folded?

No, they are used to

fasten the wheel in the folded position. They are like a bungee cord and go around the spoke with the wheel folded. The ball goes through the cords to hold it. Don't use them because the hinge bolts are tight enough to hold the wheel in the folded position.

ball goes through the cord

dealer had set up most of the boat and left the wheel in the folded position with the ball through the bungee attched to the other ball. I had tried this before but did not push the two large plastic threaded knobs close enough together. Another major mystery solved ;)
