Lewmar Wheel

They are to hold the wheel in place when folded. Loop one side over the ball on the other.

Yes

They should reach but over time they will stretch out too loose and my wheel does not swing willd and usually stay folded without the balls on bungee.

No! each ball and bungee goes around the spoke behind it, and then the ball goes down between the two bungee strands. i.e. each side is self standing.

;) I have to laugh since I have had folding wheels for 4 years now and this is the first time I even considered tying them to the spoke behind. I always have done it as first suggested. It is amazing what one can learn in this forum....

Red here is a picture of a 42" wheel with a auto pilot attachment. You can see it would probably fit in a 32" wheel pretty easily. Not certain if this is a 4000 or not though.

That looks like the X-5 Autopilot Drive Wheel. The spokes on my Lewmar folding wheel are 16mm vs a 12mm on my old Edson. The Lewmar is also dished and the Edson wheel was flat. I needed to get with a Raymarine Rep here to get new rubber inserts. The rubber gives just enough play to allow the ring to snug up the Lewmar wheel which has a slight dish to it. Not sure if my old 4000 would have worked. No one sold just the rubber but you could get the rubber and bracket for $20 a pop. The rep here sold me some left over rubber inserts cheap. It would be worth checking with a rep if you have one near by

Amazing

I also learned something new with the way to use the bungee on the spokes.
