I'm interested in a folding prop for my Hunter 31. the current fixed prop is a 15x12 2 blade, Made some inquiries about recommended size and most agree that size is appropriate, however i came across a used one that is less than half the price but it is 15X14 2 blade would that over prop my engine (16 hp yanmar) or would that be ok.

I would guess that you would be over-propped. I converted my H34 from a prop the same size as your original ( 15X12) to a 3 blade Campbell Sailor. They originally sent me a 14X9 which turned out to over prop- I could only get to 2500 rpm before I hit max hull speed. Reduced to 14X8 and now I can get a bit above that but still cant get to the 2700-2900 range I used to run at . Motor is a Yanmar 3GMF and the tranny is 2:62:1

Is the used one you're looking at adjustable at all? What's the brand? You do get some slippage, so it may be worth give it a try and noting the RPM from your current to the new one. After all, you could still sell it on eBay.

Unless you are racing I would not use a non-geared Martec folding prop. The so-called 'floppy folders' have a very nasty habit of not opening when needed, in particular when you need a quick shot of reverse.

I'll testify on behalf of the folding prop, Flex o Fold. Tested least drag of any prop. Very few moving parts and less expensive than the Max Prop, which is also a great prop. Get online with flex o fold and fill out their technical info and they will give you a recommendation.
