Folding Prop Size?

I've checked the Archives and found nothing on the 33. Does anyone have information on the hull dimensions for the Hunter 33? I would like to get a folding prop but wanted to make sure there was clearance between the shaft and rudder, as well as how large a diameter of a prop Can fit as it will be sitting back further. Any information would be greatly appreciated as otherwise I'll have to haul out, or go swimming for the dimensions.

Are you sure that you want a folder?

Ben:I have not been too impressed with folding props. When they work they are OK but not great. When they foul, they are a bitch to deal with. Have you looked into any of the feathering props. I think that they will give you more thrust, less problems and better backing ability.I would doubt that you can go any larger than the 14" standard prop. I think that you are suppose to have a minimum of 15% of the prop diameter for tip clearance. More clearance is better.

No way for a folder

I tried a Martec, same dimensions as my fixed prop. It never occurred to me to measure....guess I was having a stupid month.....and it wasn't even close! The rudder is in the way, big time. I think we were out more than a few inches.

Feathering is better than folding

When approaching several mfg. for a folding prop,none could provide stats and most showed our model as being the only one that could NOT use a folding prop due to rudder clearance needed. I wanted two things from my prop for this H33, better backing propulsion with little or no port prop wash and far little drag compared to my two blade. I now get both with a Martec 2 blade. Large surface area gives both forward and reverse power without the port wash and total speed increased from .5-1.0 knot average. Pricey but very well worth the money for safety in crowded areas.

Prop clearance

I just repowered this year to a Yanmar 2GM20 from an old 2QM15. I was told by local prop experts that the ideal would be a 15" prop. There is plenty of room for that. I went to a normal 3-bladed sailer prop and have been thrilled.
