Folding prop on a Hunter 285?

I'm thinking of replacing my fixed prop on a Hunter 285 with a Martec 2 blade folding prop when I next haul the boat out. The cost is $480.Is it worth it? What type of performance increase will I experience while sailing? Any performance decrease while under power? What maintenence is required on these props? Not better motoring!

Rene:I do not think you will gain anything either in forward or reverse under power. They tend not to open quickly when they get older. They also do not seem to have much reverse thrust.I think you will find that it help your sailing speed. The question is when the rollers are comming in through the gate, are you going to have enough power to punch thru those rollers.I would suggest that you contact Kilian Prop in San Leandro and ask them what they think your BEST options are.
