Several good brand choices out there... There is, however, quite a $$ difference from "folding" to "feathering". Different technologies.

If you can spare up to 3K for a three-blade featherer, by all means go for it. Over time, we've used fixed and feathering, and the later returns almost a knot of sailing speed while keeping excellent back-up power.
Multi-blade fixed props give the most forward thrust, IMO, but punish you with the most drag under sail. 'Bout what you'd expect.....

ps: Do look also at the material from extensive testing done by YM.

Is it safe to assume you do not have a saildrive? If so that opens up more choices.

If saildrive Maxprop and kiwi prop both have solutions. I've talked to people with a Maxprop that are happy with it. I'm personally considering a maxprop but no personal experience with them YET.

On the shaft side I've always seen great reviews on Maxprop, Gori prop with so so on Autoprop.

They all have maintenance that needs to be done every couple years.

As posted in another similar thread, I think my 2 blade Flexofold is a good compromise between price and performance. As Olson points out, I went from a fixed 3 blade to the 2 and lost some forward speed that I gained back when relying only on the wind

I installed a 2 blade flexofold on my hunter28.5 this spring and I have been very pleased. I do some club racing and there is a noticeable difference in performance especially on light wind days.

I was concerned about any adverse effects on handling since there is very little room to maneuver in my marina but I have seen no difference at all between the folding and fixed prop in this regard.

In my opinion the folding prop was worth every penny.

Here is an interesting article about folding props

Last year I was looking to change my 3 blade fixed prop and also looked at the Campbell Sailer series props. Sounds like you want with a folding prop. I ended up purchasing a feathering prop, i.e. 3 blade Maxprop. My experience so far (about one year) an increased in speed while sailing. When you lock it in reverse, the blades turn and creates less resistance and you can feel the release of the drag from the prop. There is more prop walk, especially in reverse and if you put a good amount of thrust in the beginning. No difference while in forward, I am able to maintain cruising speed. Excellent stopping power.

I felt that the folding prop (and similar props) had disadvantages like reverse and handling so I am very interested in how the prop is working out for you.

If you have not already taken the plunge.... I strongly recommend a 3 bladed MAX Prop. Not cheap, no sir, but one can't be squeamish about spending when you own a sailboat. I had a 2 blade MAX Prop on my S2 8.5 for years and recently went to the 3 blade. The advantages are many, but best of all is the SMOOTH running. Better to spend $3000 ON A PROP than to waste $2000

Just to through my two cents in... I too purchased a 3 bladed max prop..... WOW, it is awesome. It does cost a lot but the results are great. I wouldn't own another boat without one,

It's a common misconception that folding or feathering props require more maintenance that fixed-blade props. All props need to be cleaned of fouling growth on a regular basis. Other than that, some feathering props (like Max Prop) require a couple of squirts of grease every few years. Easily done underwater or conveniently during a haulout for paint. Otherwise, maintaining a folder or feathering prop is no more difficult, time-consuming or expensive than maintaining a fixed-blade prop.

If you went with a fixed-blade prop based solely on maintenance considerations, you screwed yourself.

i agree with you, maintenance is not the reason. i didnt go for a feathering prop because of the price. I have installed the campbell 3 blades. it s perfect. i join a couple of others pics of modifications i did recently on my S2 11.O A.
Joul did you add a swim platform or am I seeing things? Interesting idea to have opening ports in the big lexan ones. I bet it helps on ventilation.

I'm still on the fence with props but I also have a saildrive.

I love our Vari-prop!

I would like to install one but dont know wich one yet. my engine is a universal M35B. Any suggestions ?
thanks !
We have a 3 blade vari-prop. This prop changed the boat! It goes where you expect in reverse and we gained .8 of a knot in forward. Someone else said they'd never own a boat without one. I couldn't agree more! Expensive but worth saving up for.

ports

yes SC, the ventilation is much better now, i have installed two ports over the galley and one in the salon on starboard. i ll install a third one in the salon on port side. the ventilation in the S2 11 is originaly very poor.
the swim platform is perfect to come in and out the dinghy !
