I’m just exploring options but for a future trip or type of trip I’m planning, it might be nice to bring along TWO of those folding bicycles on my 26S.

I’m thinking they could be "stored" in the Vberth all folded up (we sleep in the aft berth) but at around 30 pounds each I wouldn’t want to be moving them back and forth every time we used them. But at 60 pounds total, I would prefer them to be forward on the boat when we were sailing although a rack off the back might be most convenient..

Anyone try this?

Sounds like a good idea. Like you said, hanging them off the stern would be a lot more convenient. That would probably be my choice if sailing in fresh water. You can always move other weight into the bow. If sailing in salt water I'd want to have the bikes inside to minimize corrosion.

Let us know what you decide and how it works out.

Hmmm. I wasn’t thinking at all about salt water but that is where I would be carting around the bikes (West Coast). I’ve actually only sailed in salt water one time - maybe 20 years ago and it was on a windsurfer (edit – only on the ocean one time, I did a lot of windsurfing around Padre Island Tx).

Bud, after seeing your Vbirth pictures (nice job on everything by the way!!), I’m going to look at getting rid of the pizza slice pads up there like you did. The V birth got used for sleeping years ago but now "stuff" gets put up there.

imho, it greatly depends on how long its exposed to salt air. and how humid. some crc goes a long way. I doubt a week or 3 will do much. months and years are another story, that's where you need the alloy type

-I've been looking at this vendor for folding bikes

-no affiliation.

crc.. what is this (Im a LONG ways from any salt water..)

Those look good. It looks like you also have to spend a lot more to get the weight down and the only reason I care about that is that I might be moving the bikes around inside the cabin and 30 pounds is a little heavy. If I go this route, I guess I would just live with the weight..

CRC 6-66 is just a marine spray like wd40. (better)

I've been eyeing the gotham7. but you only save a few pounds with the alloys.

The citizens bikes seem like a cheaper alternative to the Dahon's

Any chance you could fit these in the lazarette?

how about a goped (gas)? or the ezip (electric bike)

http://www.amazon.com/Currie-Techno...s&ie=UTF8&qid=1408548955&sr=1-2&keywords=ezip

check the reviews on the ezip... see a lot of these at the racetracks.
