I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I own a Hunter 22. I have a lot of things aboard the boat, already, so I can't find a place to store my Dahon Folding Bike. I want to be able to take the bikes with me but I want to do it and not risk loosing a bike overboard. The bike will barely fit into one of my quarterberths but I hate loosing the room (then again I don't use it much). I had someone suggest to get something made and have the bike attached to the stern rail. I am worried that it would get in the way when I was sailing and I would be worried about losing the bike overboard (A very expensive loss). If there was a safe way to do this it would be okay. THen comes the aspect of cost. How much would something like that cost? I am not sure there is a perfect answer to this. Either I pay a little and worry about it when it is on the stern rail or I sacrifice precious space. Anyone else have any other ideas they would be very welcome!

Buy the bag

The bag Dahon offers makes it much easier to move the bike to and from stowage. We store our on berths whhile sailing, and on deck at anchor/at the dock. I have also stowed them on the stern rail where they do provide some shade from the rising or setting sun. No problem making them secure there. Do be carefull of tire marks on the deck (also solved by the bag. Many Lake Erie ports have excellent biking trails. LAst summer we especially enjoyed Pele Island and Point Pele. David Lady Lillie

Go to a bed supply store

When my wife and I cruise in the summer we also take our bikes...However they do not fold so I find a space on deck out of foots(feets) way and sail. Then I place each bike in a large plastic mattress bag...(You can buy them at any matress store...they have a roll of them in the back..we paid $5.00 each.) I then lash on deck or the rail....the deck has been better for us as it reduces windage. They have stayed dry while we cruise for 2 years now....well worth the $10.00 good Luck. Rob
