Foiled by antifouling paint.

It seems that every day the list grows longer of boats down here in the Caribbean that have been duped by Sea Hawk Antifouling paints.
Save yourself the heartache and stay away from Sea Hawk products. Down here their paints even have considerably more of the antifouling ingredients than the paint that can be purchased in the states, yet the paint not only does not antifoul, it won't even stay on the hull for three months, even when professionally applied!
Forewarned is for armed! Do not waste your money on Sea Hawk antifouling paints.

WOW!! I have been using Sea Hawk ablative for several years now. I believe it is manufactured here in Clearwater specifically for these warm waters. I sail the west central area of Florida and have never had a problem. I can usually go 5-7 years between bottom jobs. A couple of times a year, when the water is warm, I anchor shallow and check out the bottom, clean the running gear and check the zincs. Usually have no more than a dozen or so barnacles. I do use my boat frequently so that may have some bearing. Like to hear what others have to say.

I wonder if it is a problem with painting seahawk over other bottom paints. I've heard others with good stories of seahawk paint. There could be some issues with the chemical interaction that negates the good fouling properties and also affects adhesion.
We were hauled at a good yard in the gulf. Decided to add a coat of antifoul touchup along the waterline. The yard recommended seahawk. We had Petit. It did very poorly.

First year, barrier coat, then Sea Hawk 44.
Second year, free haul & paint job for areas the paint fell off. Sea Hawk on Sea Hawk paint. Lasted about 3 months. We're not alone, there are many, many boats down here with the problem.
Apparently the local Sea Hawk rep is taking info from boats with the problem and promising some action. No action and no company move to take responsibility, yet.
Anyway, I'm just warning folks here, I'm not going to argue with those who somehow get good results. All these paints cost about the same and as far as I can tell, not one seems to do what we buy it to do. But at least most stay on the hull for a season.
