I'm waiting for the water to warm up !
Hi Phil and Jerry,Your right, I was waiting for this spring to test out the mast floation ablity. I would like to say that I will test it this May at Mission Bay, ( 19th trough the 22nd)If the water is warm enough or if I can get a few Young volunteers to test it for me using my boat will see. Wet suits ? I don't know by foaming the mast if it will stop the boat from turtling, that would be great, My intent was to stop the water from rushing into the mast and alLowing me time to right the boat. One of our H.D.A.S.C. members did buy an INFLATABLE PFD to mount at the top of his 170 mast. The PDF works off of a PILL type CARTRIDGE that when in contact with water will inflate the PFD, Using a wide piece of velcro to mount the PFD to the mast would would keep the PFD in a very low profile and hardly noticeable, once the mast would hit the water the PFD would inflate. We did not test this as he moved up to a hunter 216. I'm not sure what he paid for the INFLATABLE PFD, I do like the idea, its very flat may be 2 inches thick by 3-4 inches wide and about 24 inches long so you can see how nice it would mount to the top of the mast, it would just look like the top of the mast was painted black !The weather here in southern California is starting to warm up, but it takes the water a little longer.I'm anxious to find out the results too and will let everyone know just as soon as I find out.Are you two free of ice yet ?Happy sailing.........Glenn
