Foaming the 170 mast???

Has anyone reading this actually foamed their 170's mast? If so, how'd you do it and, if you've done the capsize test, what were the results? I know that internally foaming the 170 mast has been talked about somewhat in the archives, but I'm wondering if any one has used spray-in foam instead of the oft-recommended HVAC-type/copper-pipe insulating foam core stuff. I've seen this spray-foam stuff (in a yellow/red spray can-- apparently the foam can be cut/painted/form-fitted and comes out yellow) at Home Depot and wondered if anyone knows if it might work for this use. Also, if anyone knows of another type of spray foam (high buoyancy would be the key) that might do the job, let us know. Thanks, Mike G. Alachua, FL

I have foamed.

Yes, I have foamed my mast. so have a couple of other 170 owners in our club. I installed the pipe insulation first then foamed the end of the mast to seal it from water intrusion using the expanding foam from home depot. We haven't done the capsize test yet as the water is still a little cold. When we do we will post here. Brian
