There has been some discussion about the hollow section in the keel
below the bilge that is filled with foam. It seems that water getting
into this area is a common problem, with some adding a drain plug. I
have the same situation here and will be adding a drain as well.
Living here in Nova Scotia with freezing temperatures it appears that
the fiberglass has bulged somewhat in this area from the water
freezing during the winter. Perhaps if the new drain had been
installed some years ago the bulging may not have occurred. Is there a
problem here with the strength of the hull after freezing? Has anyone
attempted a repair as in digging out the old foam and resealing?
