Foam in mast

I have an Oday Mariner 2+2. My question is that everytime I step up and lower the mast there seems to be foam coming out of it. All these little white styrofoam balls keep coming out. Have the mice made a comfy home in my mast during sitting? Is the mast usually filled with foam and will it affect performance if it all eventually comes out? I would love to know!! Thanks for any help!

the foam, closed cell, is there to keep the mast from going straight down incase of a knockover by adding bouyancy to the mast. stuff it back in when it falls out or slice pool noodles and repack with them,.
