First of all, I appologize for all the recent questions, but I want to thank all of the members of this forum for contributing. What is the easiest way to connect an FM antena to a CAR radio and splice it into the VHF Antena. Is this even worth while pursuing. I came across splitters on the market, but they're in the $50 range. Will a loose wire work as well for an FM antena that's inside the cabin or do I need to run the wire up the mast?

I have a loose wire

When I installed a new VHF, I went with the loose wire (with plug, cost about $6) for the FM. Works fine. The original setup had a splitter, but you have to remember to switch back and forth between the VHF and the FM.

Car Antenna

I just bought a 12" car antenna at a discount autoparts store, plugged it in the back of the radio and attached it with 2 small strips of duck-tape in a convenient closet. Cheap and works fine without having to bother with switching a splitter. I would think with the number of radio stations in your area that you would get good reception. Good luck and have a nice season

Easier Way

Eliminate the antenna all together. Just attach the car stereo wire to the backing plate of a stanchion. Works perfectly and eliminates the bulky antenna. Sean

Car Antenna

I just spent $50 on a FM/VHF splitter but if I had to do it again- I would buy one of those rubber low-profile car antenna's and do what was mentioned above - tape it upright either in a closet or against the inside of your hull- out of site. I had one for years on my ski-boat and it worked fine - just a few feet off the water.

I got the splitter

I got the splitter and installed it on the Hinkley hoop. Prior ot the splitter I had a radio wire flopping around behind the radio. Now I get so many stations its almost annoying.

Hinkley Hoop - where to find one?

Hinkley hoop antennas have been mentioned a few times as being good things. I've looked, but can't find information about them. Where can one be purchased? Regards, Gary Kunkel

Check a Dealer

Try calling G. Winters Sailing in Riverside NJ. They installed mine so I know they have access to them.

Me too

I too get poor FM and no AM reception in my area (Caseville MI). I would like to know what a "Hinkley Hoop" antenna is and does it help AM reception. I have a pretty good AM/FM CD unit and I like to listen to talk radio now and then on the AM band.

Try "Hinkley Loop" not Hoop...

When I searched on Hinkley Hoop Yahoo asked if I meant Hinkley LOOP. It seems that it is some type of hi-tech part of radio reception but after prowling aroung some of the web sites I don't know a damned thing more than when I began the search. The mystery continues... MIke

Hinckley Antenna

Well let's get @##$% over this!!! (my apologies....couldn't help myself) The passion! The energy! Wow! I've attached a reference to a Hinkley antenna, complete with installation instructions, from a tech note. The pertinent section says that Henry R. Hinckley Co. made their own antennas and that they were for sale in the Hinckley Ships Store (1-800-446-2553) for $85. Enjoy, darn it! Paul
