I was curious to know how often any of you would reccomend flushing out the Yanmar. 3cyl. Have any of you set up a fresh water flush system? If so how did you do it?

Not sure if there is a consensus on how often it is necessary unless you are having a problem. For me, the annual flush and fill with antifreeze in prep for winter is all.

I Do It...
...in the fall when I decommission and winterize. 1) I shut the raw water intake valve. (I always leave it shut when not aboard or sleeping) 2) Loosen the ss straps. 3)Remove the hose. 4) I stage gallon jugs, 2 or 3-fresh water (open and ready). 5) 3-pink stuff (staged, open & ready). 6) Using another person, have them start the engine. 7)I stick a funnel in the intake hose and start pouring water into the funnel until it is gone. 8) I then yell to the operator that I have switched to pink and continue to pour. 9)The operator is instructed to stop the engine (pull the fuel cut off) when he sees pink stuff start to emerge. 10) This is all preceded by adding algecide and fuel stabilizer to the full fuel tank and running at idle for a few minutes to mix the algicide & stabilizer up and to get it into the fuel lines for shut down. 11) When this is completed, I am winterized! Otherwise, you are always good to go! OR....as often as you feel necessary! Long Story Short: Only when I winterize.

Raw water or coolant side flush?
Connie: If you are talking about the coolant side of the engine and you are using the "extended life" coolant, the flush cycle is 5 years. Our vessel lives in fresh water so flushing the raw water side of the engine has never been an issue.

I flush everytime I use the motor...
I'm in salt water and flush after each usage. I installed a tee fitting and a ball valve on to a on deck garden hose fitting. The tee fitting adds fresh water between the raw water strainer and the raw water pump. So when I run the engine with the hose connected I'm flushing the motor and back flushing the raw water strainer at the same time. This system has worked well for 14 years now.

Landsend's system is a very good way to flush the raw water engine or raw water side. Your 336 layout is similar to my 33 in where the head is located. My engine flush system starts under the heads sink drain where a tee valve directs the water either outside or to a hose to the engine. At the engine there are two valves before the water pump, one lets raw water in to cool the engine, the other lets the fresh water from the sink in to flush the engine out. This system requires a little boat pluming but works well. "Caution" close the flushing valves and open the raw water valve after use.
