I use a honda 8 longshaft on my H23...its next to impossible to flush it out with fresh water after a sail...the rubber flush / hose attachment is about a foot under (salt)water...does anyone use some other method to flush out a honda while at the dock??? thanx steve sv hotspur

Honda Flush

Steve, I have the same engine and routinely flush it out at the dock. Honda makes a part that attaches near the head of the engine that will accomodate a hose for flushing. Check your manual. The part, in my view, should have been included with the engine. As I recall, it costs about $15 but it makes flushing the engine almost effortless. I'd be more specific about manual page numbers and part name but all of that info is down at the marina. Good luck.

Flushing

I have a 2000 9.9 Honda and flush it using the little earmuff devices over the water intake. Jonathan, did you install the flushing device yourself? Mine came with a fitting but I've never been able to figure out how to use it. Alan

Part For Flushing

Alan, I had to buy the part/fittng. It's a small brass part that has a female side for the hose and a male side that inserts (sorry about the imagery here - I don't make this stuff up) into the engine. On the 8hp, take the enginge cover off - the female intake is located about 2/3 the way to the back (with the prop facing away from you) on the right side of the engine. There is another female intake on the engine but the one described above is the only one the brass coupling/nipple/part/fitting (?) will fit into. I'm going to the Marina this afternoon and I'll try to remember to bring back the manual so that I can use the terms that Honda uses to describe all of this. Hope this helps.

9.9 Flusher Hook-Up

On a 9.9 Honda there are 3 removable screws on the lower port (left) side of the engine, facing forward. The lowest one is the gear oil drain plug, the next one up is the gear oil level plug, and above that is the engine wash plug. It has "WASH" stamped into the casting, next to it. The owners manual shows how to use it, below is a picture of it.

Garden Hose Adapter

The part in Marcel's picture is identical to the part called a "Garden Hose Adapter" for Honda's 8HP. Page 71 of Honda's manual (at least the edition I have) explains where and how to attach it to the engine for flushing.
