This is from a 2004 Hunter 36 but I believe the same light was used in other models. When I disconnected the fluorescent light above the mirror in the head, I forgot to note which contact was +ve and -ve :facepalm:

In the attached picture, am I right about which is "+" and "-" ?

Thanks,
Andy

There are at least 3 capacitors in this image. Look on the underside of the PC board where the capacitors have been soldered. The positive lead is normally labeled. The other lead of the capacitor is the negative side of the Light fixture. Therefore the other wire is the positive.

Very good suggestion @JoeWhite - get the polarity wrong and those electrolytic capacitors have a bad habit of exploding.... (although I would hope that the circuit includes a diode to protect against this, or a rectifier bridge so that the connection polarity doesn't matter)

Well, I’d like to give you a suggestion;
Rip out the fluorescent tube, and modify the fixture to use flexible led tape.
It’s a really easy mod to do, and I have photos of how it looks when done.
the lighting is 1000% better than the existing tube, and you can put a dimmer on it as well.
I actually put a wireless remote button on mine, so that guests aren’t fumbling for the switch. Very easy upgrade

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think I got the polarity right, the tube has been on for a few minutes now, with all the covers off so I can see the components. There is no visible sign or smell to indicate that anything bad is happening.

If i had it wrong, I assume bad things would have happened quickly - is that right?

Any reason to still worry?

Andy
