My wife and I are planning on a 6 day live aboard ASA sailing program in March of 2003. One school we are considering is in Pensacola and the others are in either St Petersberg or Punta Gorda. While the prices are all relatively close I am a little concerned as to what the weather might be like in Pensacola or St. Petersberg in Mid March. Does anyone have any suggestions on location? We considered the BVIs however prices were too expensive for private lessons. Thanks Marc

before ye book

before you book, ckeck out royal yachting association and sailing academies in great britain. united kingdom sailing academy will give you a good idea. instruction there, by necessity seems to be far more comprehensive.

punta gorda

The weather here in March is sunny & dry, usually. El Nino is upon us and it has hardly stopped raining but March is a long way off yet. The winds are great that time of year, the weather is finally tolerable (above 70F)and the low winter tides are rapidly vanishing. Given a choice I'd take Punta Gorda (Burnt Store), but then again, I consider Tampa to be the edge of the artic circle. Sorry, I'm a true Florida Cracker, born and bred.

Offshore Sailing School on Duck Key

US Sailing certification. I took the Basic Keel Boat class with these guys last year on Captiva. Good people and really good instructors. They run their bareboat school out of Duck Key. Shouldn't be a problem with the weather in March. Good luck.

Annapolis Sailing School

We did the Annapolis Sailing School in St. Pete a few years ago in March. We are in that area every year in March, and while you may not be able to sunbathe on the beach every day, the temperature's fine for sailing. We liked the 2 day big boat course we took at the school.

The weather in Pensacola

is usually about five to eight degrees cooler than St. Pete. I have lived in Pensacola for several years and April is my favorite month for sailing.Traditionally in March it is cool in the morning and night and warm in the day. St Augustine Sailing

Excellent school, good boats, excellent staff and very scenic surroundings. I did two ASA schools there. After St Augustine Inlet and the lower St Johns River you should be able to cruise just about anywhere. Just my two cents. I also added a link below to their website (I hope it's right).
