Can anyone tell me the approximate costs for a 35-40' slip in Florida and also the availability. I am stuck in the rain and dreaming about sunnier places.

Not Cheap

Forget any past perceptions that Florida is cheap I keep my boat on Amelia Island at the Amelia Island Yacht Basin and the charge me $11.00 per foot plus $35.00 electric. Rates are expected to increase this year. Now that may not seem like a lot, but you must realize that the marina entrance is not navigable one hour each side of low tide. The downtown marina in Fernadina has just gone to $15.00 per foot plus electric, and these are mud slips (you sit in the mud at low tide) All of Florida's marinas are being bought for condo's with slips and the cost for public marina slips climb as the demand increases and the supply decreases. If you have any specific questions you can e-mail be at captain@burnsweb.com

$11.00/Ft annual + tax + electric + live-aboard fee of $100 per month. http://www.burntstoremarina.com/ I was looking for a transient slip in Key West and found them to be over $25 per foot for annual contracts. Miami charges $21 for non residents. Check the web, here's a start: http://www.sailmiami.com/Marinas/floridamarinas.htm By the way, it rains in Florida too. Fact is it rains all summer. Bill

Monthly Costs?

Are the other posts citing monthly costs for the slips? Here in New England slips are often in excess of $100/ft (fixed cost) for a 6-month season.

Just for general information

Just for general information our slips in Elizabeth City are about half of what a florida slip at the cheapest marina might cost. Last time I checked I believe it was 5.50 per foot per month. I own a condo and got out of slip renting in 1984 which was a great move in retrospect. Sailing here is close to a 10 month season. We also have tannic acid water which requires a bottom job only about every 7 years. We also have a yatch club with dues of 100 dollars. Those slips are currently 2.50 per foot per month.

KennyH, what is the name of the

yatch club you refer to? (Contact info also if you have it). I have a friend that has just moved his boat to New Bern, NC which doesn't look to far away from you. George

Actually...

Elizabeth City is a long way by water from New Bern, probably 150 miles. Great place, but world away.
