I am interested in finding a marina in the warm part of Florida (eastern side) where I might dock my H34 and live aboard from Oct-April. Any suggestions and recommendations will be appreciated. I will be coming from the Chesapeake. Bob

When we were in Florida we stayed @ a couple "nice" places. Tittusville Municiple, Indian Cove/Cocoa Beach and Whitley/Cocoa. All three are in good areas, local to necessary facilities..all three have their own personalities! Enjoy!!

Florida Marina - Ft. Pierce

Bob, In Ft. Pierce (There is a Ft. Pierce Inlet to the ocean) there is a very good marina. It is the Ft. Pierce City Marina. A few good resturants, a ships/grocery store, and within walking distance to downtown Ft. Pierce. There is a Farmers Market just outside the Marina every Sat. morning. Dick Carey S/V Puffin

Define warm...

Bob, If you're looking for Palm Beach down to the Keys you better hurry. A friend of mine has been trying to find a slip between Boca Raton and Ft. Pierce and has so far struck out. The further south you go the harder it will be at a nicer marina. In winter the "frost line" is usually near Vero Beach somewhere. If you're looking for local action try Miami, I liked Dinner Key Marina in Cocoanut Grove. Miami Beach Marina is nice but very rolly due to ship and boat traffic. Ft Lauderdale will be hideously expensive down near the beach and the City Marina will be tough to get into but worth the try. If you're up for being further away from civilization you'll probably have better luck. I'd start with one of the SE Florida cruising guides and start calling. If you've got any specific questions feel free to e-mail me at jewing@JamesEwing.com. Good luck and maybe we'll see each other on the water. Jim h37.5 "Prospect"

Daytona Beach

If you are willing to try a more "northern" location, consider the Halifax Harbor Marina in Daytona. It is walking distance to shopping, is probably one of the cleanest and best run marinas on the east coast. We are a short hop to Ponce Inlet for good ocean sailing and rarely (1 or 2 times per year) get a frost and then only for a couple of hours warming up to the upper 50s and 60s quickly. Fla warm winter

If you want warm decent weather all winter you pretty much have to stay south of Stuart. The Stream veers away from land at that point. If you don''t have to be too close to cities it can be very nice in the Keys. Henry Weber -- Boca Raton

Try This Web Site

Bob: Try the following web site. Sort of bare bones, but does give some good basic info. Jeff http://www.charternet.com/marinas/florida.html

A few more suggestions...

If you are looking for "tropical" warmth, anywhere south of Vero Beach should be good. However, frosty mornings are rare all the way up to the Georgia state line, and will burn off within an hour or so after sunrise. Most marinas are on the ICW near an inlet. Some inlets are far apart. Tidal currents can be strong through the inlets (2-3 knots is not unusual) and can create surprisingly rough water when there is an opposing wind. A good source of local information is "Cruising Guide to Eastern Florida" by Claiborne S. Young. I have found it to be very accurate. You should be able to find it at the larger suppliers like West Marine or Boat/US. Good luck! Peter H23 "Raven"

wrong coast

You'll love the east coast. It has increased crime, population, traffic, cost, irritations. The left coast has very little of that stuff, I'd certainly recomment all the snow birds stay on the right coast so the left side stay's nice, quiet and fairly crime free.

How Warm Is Warm Enough?

There are plenty of marinas in the Fort Myers area for that matter Sarasota south to the keys. Plenty of places to anchor out with an easy dinghy in too. Right now it is too cold for me though, it got down to fifty something last night. This would be a little longer trip for you but the fun is in the journey. The Okeechobee Waterway has a 48 foot bridge that they will tip you over to get under but the best way is around Florida's bottom. It is warmer down there anyway. If you gave me more details, and are interested in the Ft. Myers area, I would make a call or two. Just Email me: jcvillines@aol.com
