You can cross under the seven mile bridge and take the yacht's man channel thru Florida Bay to the West coast and avoid Marathon altogether. We draw 6' and have made the passage thru the Yacht's Man channel numerous times without problems. Your next stop would probably be Little Shark River and then on to Boca Grand.
