Due to growing boat insurance cancellations in Florida. Any suggestions for coverage(boat and/or liability) for a 1980 Hunter 33?

I have mine thru....

I have my car and boat insurance thru Progressive. I did not need a survey. To be honest I was not happy with a auto claim I had to resolve with them a few months ago. I called back to ask a few basic questions about my boat policy and they couldn't answer those questions either. It would seem their staff training would end at filling out the basic forms and giving a quote but I feel that most of their employees don't have a clue as to what they are selling, especially with boats. Keep in mind, here in Florida any insurance is better then no insurance. Good luck, Jack

Florida insurance

Earlier this year I tried to get insurance in Florida on my Catalina 34. I had just purchased it from a neighbor. His insurance was not taking renewals. I tried progressive, no luck boat too big. Tried several others and only had 2 possibilities. One in Maryland and Boat US. Well, I just paid the boat US one and went on. It was pretty expensive.

You are probably going to pay a lot in Florida...

but I found Boat US to be extrememly easy to work with - though you will need a recent survey. They accepted my year old survey and, like Peter, it took 10 minutes on the phone. Here on the Great Lakes our rates a pretty reasonable. My 1985 34 is around $300 a year.

My BOAT us policy insuring at $45,000 on a 34 Catalina was over $1600. This is taking a big dedcuctable and 80% coverage for a named storm. FLORIDA, paradise with a price tag. Naples FL.
