I might have the possibility of a relo to Florida. I currently have a Catalina 310 on Lake Ray Hubbard near Dallas, TX. My full coverage boat insurance costs me about $1,000 per year. What does coverage cost on the Florida Coast-just curious what other sailors are paying. Fair Winds!

I just bought a 34 Hunter in Tampa Bay and called every possible insurance I could find. found out that several only cover big Yachts with ridiculous prices. One actually offered coverage without hurricane coverage DUH!!! Anyway, found that BoatUS was the best. For my boat worth about $29k it cost about $1300 a year, so yours may calculate about the same as you are paying now.

The reply about not covering hurricanes is correct on some policy's. Also understand that some will not cover damage from any named storm. Since you are coming from an inland lake, be sure to check for the offshore coverage you may want. Some limit you to 50 miles out. I made a trip down the east coast late last fall, and heard that some ins. wouldn't cover boats that headed south from NY and that area, untill after Nov. 1. After all the hurricanes in this area there is lots of limited coverage, so be sure you read all the fine print in the policy.

as well, on what PART of Florida. I personally have had great luck using the same folks who have my auto and homeowners insurance (Allstate). Agreed upon value of $70,000, full coverage, including named storms and ability to cruise to Keys and 50 mi.( maybe more?) "offshore", runs under $700. BoatUS and Progressive were both over $1200 3 years ago! Good luck, I love Ray Hubbard and have friends up there.
