Where can I find a replacement floorboard for my Catalina 27, 1973. Or should I try to make my own. Also has anybody put any type of carpet down below. I have small kids i think this could soften falls and sliding. Thanks Skip

Carpet for Catalina 27

I replaced the stained and worn carpet on my Catalina 27 last summer. I bought a remnant of the Berber type from a carpet store and had them send it out to have a binding sewn on. The binding was about $1 a foot and the total costs was about $118.00.

Make a template

Get some butcher paper & make a template of the sole. Then do what Bernard suggested. I have custom cut wool carpet and, though it's very nice, when it gets grimy, I can't just use a carpet cleaner on it. I've taken it in to get "dry cleaned" but it didn't do a whole lot. IOW, don't get wool. LaDonna

You Can glue the edges

and save the $100 on loop stitching the edges, which will be more than the carpet if you buy a remnant. They sell the glue at the remnant store & it works fine. Not as pretty, but stitching is not worth a hundred bucks either (to me). Also look for a non-mildew carpet, or you'll be replacing it after the first year. good luck!

Floorboards

You can get replacement floorboards directly from the factory, but they are a bit pricey. I went to a specialty lumber yard and got teak and holley plywood. The thickness is only 1/4", so I also bought some luan (sp?) and glued it to the back to get the same thickness as the original. Use the original as a template, cut it out, put on 4-5 coats of poly, top and bottom, and you end up with fantastic looking floorboards. Good luck.
