How does one best go about replacing the three wood floor boards? If I have them made, what do I tell the wordworking place about the wood, lamination, finish, etc.?

floor boards,

If you have the old ones take them to some one , otherwise I would call hunter and they can probably direct you to their supplier, or get them, most of what I have bought from hunter for our 89h23 could not be duplicated for the price theycharge, good luck Mike B

Just replaced mine...

What the originals are made of is plywood covered with a teak and holly veneer, and your best chance of having them replaced for a reasonable price with a like material is to call Mike Thomas the Hunter factory... Or, alternatively, you can do what I did- I replaced mine with StarBoard, and will never have to replace them again! A bit more expensive, but I think it's worth it. --Jon Bastien H23 '2 Sheets to the Wind'

StarBoard?

Hi Jon! Where did you go to replace your boards with StarBoard? What is StarBoard? I just spoke with Mike Thomas yesterday about replacement teak handrails, but forgot to ask him about the floorboards. Considering my boat, Wish-full, is under shrink wrap up here in MN for the season, my floorboards are a bit out of reach right now...

StarBoard

Hi Todd, StarBoard is a plastic-type material that is sold in sheets; It is easy to work with (to cut, sand, drill, put edges on, etc)- It handles almost exactly like plywood, but I think it's a bit stronger. It's impervious to water damage (Important for any piece that covers the "bilge"), but it does scratch/scar pretty easily. I covered the sole boards in my H23 with a carpet runner to prevent scratch damage to the boards. The big drawback is the price- To get pieces big enough to make sole boards out of, you have to buy almost twice as much as you need (The smaller sheets are about 1 1/2" too narrow), and this gets quite expensive (about $49 per sheet at my local West Marine). Of course, If you're handy with woodworking tools, you can use the remaining pieces to build handy things like a binocular rack, or drink holders, or anything else made of PVC that they sell for way too much money at your local marine store... Next time you're at a West Marine, ask the sales people about StarBoard- They should have some on hand. --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'
