Floating line tangle

How do you handle floating tender tow line when it’s on deck? I want to use a good length of tow line for single handing cold water safety. When polypropylene is on deck it’s like a springy snake. Even trying to flake it into a bucket makes a rats nest. Is the polypropylene with the jacket much better?

Try these

I use the little yellow velcro straps from west marine, they go on and off easy. I always leave them hanging on the rails around the boat for quick use. Dean

Don't use that cheap...

...yellow polypro single braid garbage. There are plenty of quality options available. Check out 'MFP Float Line' in the Chandlery on this site. Has all the characteristics you are looking for without having to deal with the 'rats nest'.

I have some floating double braid that I simply

stuff into a small drawstring bag. Got it many years ago at a sale, the line appears similiar to that now sold at the chandlery here.

I keep mine in...

an old mesh grapfruit bag from the grocery store. It is the perfect size, and stores easily. I pushed about 3 feet of line thru the bottom, tied an over hand knot and spliced a shackle on to the end to clip onto the boat. I stuff the line in, and spliced a loop about 2 1/2 ft round in that end, with a snap connected to the loop. I snap onto a spare fender that I can use to toss the line with. The fender serves as a weight for the line and a float for the victim.
