Dear All, I just had a survey done about a year ago and the surveyor told me the bulb keel in these boats do flex a little and are not as rigid as in other brands. I've had the boat bottom painted and have not seen any evidence of any structural damage. Is this true or do I need to be concerned? Ed

There would be evidence of it. This is not something that happens without evidence. The keel may need to have the joint with the stub fiberglass keel refinished, but that's just cosmetic. That is common to the majority of boats made with that construction... ie most of them. Tightening the keel boats is sometimes called for early in the boats life, but yours may have already had this done. Wouldn't worry about it. Rick D.

woud see cracking in the barrier coat around the keel stub joint. Hunter usually sealed these joints with fiber glass. Any movement at the joint would cause the seal to crack and even chip away becoming quite noticeable. If your yard has the ability to check the keel bolt torque, then that would be a good next step. Maybe the surveyor is talking about the soft and mallable (sp?) nature of those keels, not flexing off the hull. The winglets and tail fin are rather soft and can be easily bent from a grounding or yard bump. And conversely they can be bent back into shape too. His comment may have refered to such?Think?
