Flexible Couplings

Hi Everyone,

Back in December, there was a thread posted on flexible couplings and a
suggestion for the Vetus Bullflex was made.

Question:
Has anyone had first hand experience with this model? If so how has it
performed for you? Installation reasonable? Noticible difference in
dampening, noise reduction, vibrations, etc...?

They are definitely not cheap and I was wondering if there were other
more affordable couplings that would work with the Volvo MD6A's out
there on the market? Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris

If you have a combi then you cannot use any of the flexible couplings.

If you have a standard gearbox and standard shaft arrangement then I
suggest the Centafles Type 12 25mm (Vetus also do them and call them
similar I think).

Steve,

I still have a Centraflex with only one seasons light use, £50 will see
on its way to a new owner if you know anybody contemplating an engine
upgrade..

Hi Steve,
You stated that you can't use a flexcoupling with a
combi. As long as the coupling is properly spaced so
that it does not hit the combi or the stuffing box,
then why not?

Hi John

The outside of the drive for the combi is a stainless 316 tube. For this
to operate the feathering props to change speed and direction the tube
goes in and out up to about four inches. The coupling is a static part
that cannot allow hardly any movement forwards and backwards, certainly
not the amount needed for the combi.

Hope this explains it as I am notvery good at explaining mechanical
things with words!
