I've recently, successfully I might add, using a product called Flex Seal, stopped a whole lot of deck leaks on my 1980 Hunter Cherubini. The down side is yellow staining spots in the gel coat too. LOVE the waterproofing, not the stains. Anyone have a solution?

Doesn't appear to be. Flex Seal is mostly petroleum asphalt and crumb rubber, thus the stains.

I had the crumbling effect also but I cleaned the area better next time and re-applied with several thin coats, allowing a day to cure between. It has been a 90+ percent success. We've had a very wet spring/summer in the Apostle Islands and I have a very dry boat. Been using Zap to help clean the yellowing and it works better than Simple Green or bleach on most areas.

I got two rolls of Butyl Tape from Main Sail (here on this forum). The stuff is great! I also noticed that Gorilla Glue has started selling a product that seems to be a lot like butyl tape. It is sold as a two sided adhesive tape.
Recently saw some references to 3M VHB tape praised by a marine hardware manufacturer rep for bedding/sealing. (can't remember the hdwe mfr) Looks promising, anybody else seen/tried it? Curious as I have some of those jobs in my future.
I believe butyl tape is quite a bit less expensive, but aside from that what areas would you be looking for improvement beyond what you can do with butyl tape??

About three years ago I had a customers boat on the hill, and he wanted me to check a couple of leaking thru hulls on the boat. He had sprayed flex seal all around the thru hulls, and it was still leaking. It got a HUGE laugh from us boat mechanics. The crap would flake off with your fingernails. Useless crap in a can...
Not true. You can spray wasp nests with it and they can't fly and you can then stomp them.

yea we used to put that crap in a paper bag (remember them) set in on somebody's front porch set fire to the bag and ring the doorbell run like the devil and hide in the bushes and watch them stomp out the fire....we called it playing s#!ty footNot true.
