Flattening Reef

I recently acquired a 1975 Catalina 27. It has a shelf-foot main (made by Hood) with two reef points plus a flattening reef point. All the reef lines had been removed, so I'm in the process of figuring out how to put them back. The boom has three blocks which appear to correspond to the reef points on the sail. The real puzzle is how to rig the line or lines for the flattening reef. Anyone have pictures or diagrams of your setup? Thanks very much.

Reef Lines

Check "the Best of SAIL Trim" by Charles Mason. He has a good article on how to set up for Jiffy Reefs....

It is hard to say with knowing what the end of the your boom looks like but here gos. As you say you have 3 blocks for the reefs. On my boat, the 1st (Lower) reef is on the starboard side block. the 2nd (upper) reef is on the port side block and the flattening reef is in the middle Hope this helps Rich

JIFFY REEFING ON MY CAT 25

DAVE: I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CAT 25..THE JIFFY REEF LINE WAS REMOVED WHEN I BOUGHT THE BOAT ..AND THE EXISTING HARDWARE ON THE BOOM WAS A BIT CONFUSING. THERE ARE TWO SOLUTIONS.. ONE IS GO TO THE WEB SITE:CATALINA 25-250.ORG, THEN TO "BROCHURES + MANUALS SECTION...THEN SELECT"OWNERS MANUAL NEW VERSION" THEN SELECT PICTURE 4-1-9 IT ILLUSTRATES ALL LINE POSITIONS. OR GET A HARKEN CATALOG (AT WEST MARINE) GO TO PAGE 193 AND LOOK AT THE REEFING PICTURES. BEST WINDS: JOHN SAINDON "STUART lITTLE" CAT 25
