Any creative ideas on mounting flat screen televisions to the bulkheads without punching any holes? I see many boats using articulating arm mounting brackets which seem to be nice, I assume they need to strap the TV back some how when underway.

I can’t get to my boat (h376) to measure the width of my bulkhead but I assume a 20 or 22 inch flat-screen is sufficent in size. I don’t think I need anything but access to DVD movies. I saw a JVC flat screen with a built-in DVD player in the rear (access by the right side). This makes for a cleaner install as no additional cabling is required except for power.

Thoughts, any pictures you might be able to share?

LOL Ross.

The kids enjoy watching Capt Jack pirate movies while anchored at night and I'll watch Capt Ron at times. But my wife always seems to get in a chick-flick :(. It just adds to the experience.

I don't have any better solutions for attachments, but I recommend getting an LED versus and LCD TV. LEDs are much flatter and they use half the power or less. Plus you can get many that actually run on 12V (through a power cord transformer).

You might want to consider mounting on a swing arm at the nav station. Mine will rotate so you can use it as a nav monitor for the laptop and when you want TV just swing it around and it is facing the salon.
Also there are models that have built in DVD players and run on 12 volts

If you must have aTV (and I do have one...)

RGDavis,

On my h40.5 I already had the best TV wall space utilized, so I used an articulating arm mount near my nav station. The advantage for me was that I can position the TV for viewing anywhere in the salon and the power and antenna connections are right behind the TV in the nav power panel area. I needed to fabricate a small piece of teak to move the TV away from a swing-down cabinet, but otherwise it was a simple "bolt it on" installation. I have a 15" 4:3 format HDTV with a built-in DVD player that all runs on 12V ship power. I've had it for 3-4 years so it is a LCD type of unit. I secure the TV when underway with a bungy cord that attaches near the back of the top of the TV, over the TV and to a hook under the bottom.

I have attached some pictures below that may give you some ideas for your own installation. I think a 17-20" TV is entirely sufficient in size, but that's my personal opinion.

I found LED combo TV/DVD unit at http://www.vivaladeals.com/c-40-ac-dc-tvs.aspx?pagesize=9999&gclid=CMLggp7OzLACFQrf4AodRXVKWQ for my RV last winter and I'm going to get another one for the boat....the TV now on the boat is 110 volt and the kids watch it all the time while were moving but I need to use the inverter and a separate DVD player,the cables are run from under the couch to the bulkhead via plastic duct that has double face tape on the back and its been holding up well for 6 years and I'm going to reduce the size when I get the new TV cause I just need power and coax line......my TV doesn't move too much while under way cause I tightened the screws at the arms so you need to put some effort to move it
BTW after putting the TV and the satellite dish at the dock my kids (2 & 9) never complain about coming to the boat and hang out while I work

Don't watch movies on the boat.... I prefer to read... but......... I love my NFL in the fall and winter... great way to spend Sunday... working or playing on the boat with the game on.... maybe grab a short nap.... and I certainly don't want to take away from my precious boat time to stay home and watch the Olympics.

I found a swing arm bracket for my 19 inch at a Kiosk in Ontario Mills mall for $25!!!!

By the way...... do we really need to say "flat screen" TV any more? Can you even buy a CRT these days... and if so.... WHY?

I have a small combo TV/DVD mounted on an articulating arm in my H34. It did require two holes drilled in the bulkhead to bolt the arm to the bulkhead. I use a bungie to secure it when not aboard or under way.

I'm sorry, I don't remember the manufacturer of the mount. I picked it up on eBay for about $15-20. I remember that the important features were that the mounting hole pattern matched my TV and that I had freedom of movement to position the TV to face anywhere I needed.

The wooden offset piece is thru-bolted to the cabinet with fender washers, locks, and nuts on the inside. The base of the arm is bolted to the offset with counter-sunk screws and nuts. The base of the arm hides the nuts and lock-washers.

Ram makes a great swing mount for tv's. (Rammount.com) I have 3 different ram mounts. One on my GPS, in the cockpit, that swivels, one on my radar that swings into the companionway, one on my bulkhead for my tv, that swings, also. There very sturdy.

monoprice.com for lots of inexpensive mounts, cables, etc... I think I paid about 15 dollars for my articulating mount.

I just got the Super Sonic SC-1512 LED TV/DVD combo from Amazon today. It comes with a 12V plug as well as the 110V transformer. My plan is to try and utilize the bolts that protrude through the deck from the genoa track and use a flip up mount like either this one: http://www.amazon.com/Arrowmounts-AM-U01B-Ceiling-Under-Cabinet-Mount/dp/B003H2G7YG/ref=pd_cp_e_1 or this one: http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Cabinet-Monitor-Bracket-MLU01B/dp/B00153U1Z0/ref=pd_cp_e_0 That way I can stow it flat and still have access to the shelf.

My other radios are mounted this way. I used nut extensions on the exposed threads then screwed through the respective brackets into those.

Allen,
When you say "stow it", are you thinking the tv will flip up underneath the ledge, is there room for it?
