Ok, here's one to test the forum. I have an old Toshiba 486 laptop, not much good as a computer anymore, but, has a nice flat video monitor that would make a neat TV on my boat. Searched on Google and did not come up with much. Any electronic wizards out there that can tell me how to make the monitor work without the computer? I would use a VCR as the tuner is what I am thinking, so how do I make the montitor act like a dumb tv?

Look on the web.

Tom: Seach the internet for "Pcmcia Tv Tuner". Assuming that your PC has a slot, you can just plug one of these babies in, load some software and you should be good to go.

I dont have any connection answers for you but I can say that if it freezes in your area, whatch the LCD screen as they do FREEZE during winter months....I just pulled our Sharp Aquas Plasma out of our boat as winter is coming. good Luck, Rob

Hey Craige, what a neat find.

Do you have any idea what the current draw is? Seems like this could run off of an inverter without too much drain on the battery. I can already see this mounted on my O'28 for the holidays. Thanks,PM

Sylvania runs on 12v DC

After seeing Craig's link, I ordered the Sylvania, since my wife was looking for a new tv for our kitchen. It runs off a 12v DC convertor, so it looks like one could just connect it directly to the boat's DC power supply, without an inverter.
