I recieved yesterday the upgrade kit for bolting the flange on eachside of the bow and each side of her on the flange below the stern rail seat connection point. In the package was a tube of 3m adhesive. Has anyone done this upgrade and if so any guidance would be appreciated for I am not sure what the sealant is for. By the way having contacted Hunter customer service the upgrade was sent within the day and arrived in Western Australia just four days later. Now that is "real customer service". The kind that I have been used to from Hunter

What flange bolt update

Is there a 'recall' I haven't heard of. Why do you need a flange bolt upgrade?

I got the upgrade and did it

Mark, I found out about the upgrade one day when I was googling for information on my new (to me) 260, and found the notice on the huntermarine.com site. Since then, maybe with the introduction of the new 27, I can't find it on their site - but I'm sure if someone were to call their service department and give the hull number of their boat they could have the upgrade kit sent to them. The kit adds an extra bolt port and starboard at the bow and two more near the stern rail stantions. The bolts are supposed to hold the deck/hull seam together - I guess to prevent separation under some kind of conditions that the factory learned about. I used the instructions that came with the kit to drill the holes at the locations they specified. I then used the 5200 (or 4200, I forget which it was) to goop up the exposed laminate inside the drilled holes. I slid the bolts and washers into place, spun on and tightened down the locking nuts and then gooped them all over too, to prevent any water intrusion. That was about 14 months ago and they seem to be holding just fine. I'm not sure what problems the factory was seeing, but when I gave them my hull number they were also quick to send it out and very helpful. Hope that helps, and fair winds! MikeH

The reason?

Some time ago a guy (or girl) over your way sailed a 260 under a bridge resulting in the deck peeling away at about the precise moment the mast hit the bridge. It was about then that Hunter came out with up-grade.

Upgrade

Is this upgrade for Hunter 26 also, or just for the H260s. Thanks,

Only for the 260

I believe all tho a quick call to Hunter will confirm either way.

I can not tell a lie

I was the guy that caused the upgrade. I hit a bridge that was mis labled as a clearence of 42 feet it wasn't (inland lake)and I peeled the forward part of the bow back. $ 6,000 later and 3 months Crazy Dave fixed and reported it back to Hunter. The kit was made, on my boat it was done the full length on both sides. Stronger than before. John

Hello John

Did you ever take any photos of the damage. Would be interesting just to see how the deck hull join looks when it is apart. Regards

Hey John

What lake was that bridge over? What is the point of failure now if you hit something? Just curious, its the engineer in me I guess. Anything is probably better than seperating the hull/deck joint though. I did notice a 2004 260 this weekend that had 2 small bolts through the joint at the bow and 2 at the stern. I assumed this was the upgrade.
