is nice little condo marina, very close quarters, primarily for home owners in the surrounding sub-division and Home owners association..a long narrow, often shallow channel (7' or less with shoaling after a storm) in to the marina. you either own or sublet the slip, they used to be only 30' and top out at 40', not sure what is for rent or sale, the Marina office can get you a current list. Some have electric and a box, others just a slip. I think they have a 20 ton travel lift and a small repair/services. Homes around the marina (water view/front) in the $1M range, off the water between that and the low $300K range, plus HOA.

Minutes away from Cove Point LNG terminal and within Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant warning systems...they test them every now and then...

within a few miles there is limited shopping, and Solomon's Island is 12-14 miles south, prince frederick, md about half that north with plenty of food and drink and even a west marine in Solomon's.

Basically a commuter subdivision to DC and Pax River Air Station...

You can be on the Bay, right quick though...

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
The cruising area around Solomons is awesome. You have to try Smith Island and Tangier Island as they are extremely unique places (watermen's communities in the middle of the bay only accessible by boats). Oxford is nice and it is an easy sail also. Up north there is Annapolis and St. Michaels.

If you do a few day trip you can go down to Deltaville. Onancock is also a cool place. Hampton is worth a visit. I have heard of people going out into the Atlantic and going into Rudy Inlet to Lake Wesley to go to Virginia Beach.

If you go into the Potomac River the College of Saint Marys, up the Saint Mary's river off of Horseshoe Bend, does free concerts on certain days during the summer. It is a unique experience.

Get a cruising guide to the Chesapeake Bay and it will have great info in it!

Thanks guys, I've sailed past the area when we picked up the boat, landing in solomons for the night. We are interested in relocating. We had hoped to move to New Bern, NC but the job has been fill while we prepared to sell in this dismal market. What are the condo fees usually for slips as I can't find info on Flag Harbor's site? I love my marina for lack of power boat traffic and cost, but destinations are a full days sail so it leaves little time to explore on a weekend. Any suggestions for a sailboat friendly area very close to a hospital for employment? And thanks again for your replies.

You may want to consider Herrington Harbour North or South Marinas in Deale, Md. Both are great sailboat marinas and quite near Calvert Memorial Hospital just down the road in Prince Frederick, Md. They also have a medical center in Solomon's, another very sailboat friendly area with a number of quality marinas. My guess is that all will cost somewhat more than your current marina. Let me know if you have questions about Herrington Harbour, or look them up on the web.

You didn't ask for Annapolis, but there is a massive hospital complex here. And there's a West Marine across the street! A 33-foot slip next to mine and Jimm's goes for $180/month.

Chesapeake beach has sailboat slips right on the bay, but no "marina" in town for sailboats.

Flag Harbor is a delightful old-time working marina. They even have a beach. Call the Harbormaster John Little and talk to him. He's a great guy, and he has the skinny on who is renting what. There is a County hospital a few miles up Rt. 4 at Prince Frederick.

How can you call a small 10'x10' building with a shallow dock and a small travel lift...a delightful marina...you can barely walk between the dry storage, some of which have been there a decade, waist high grass and deer trails to the "trailer" storage area. They do allow some DIY...

But then, they do have a Beach...but you have to be a property or slip owner to use it...

I love cruising mid-Bay from Southern MD, 12 minutes from our home, but that $180/mo in Annapolis would be hard to beat around the Deale area. We're $250 and up. Flag Harbor (right on the Bay) and Vera's (up the Patuxent/ St Leonard's Creek) were the least expensive that I found, the last I checked in 2010. I commute 50 miles (1.5hrs) each way to Northern VA, but I'm insane (hoot is, my slipmates are all Virginians). If you look really hard, you can find a waterfront property owner that'll rent their dock to you. Check Spinsheet and the local papers.

Driving by and looking at a marina isn't the same thing as knowing what they offer. There is an adjacent state park and public beaches as well. Flag Harbor has a clubhouse, a fuel dock, pump-out, lift, mechanic, and everyone knows your name if you belong there. Rent a slip and you get benefits. This is a boaters marina. You want to lay around the dock and hold down a bar stool, Solomons will sell you that experience at a price.

calvert cliffs state park is over 10 miles down the road..or do you mean Flag Ponds, Calvert County Park...that is still 6 miles bike ride or drive..

Yeah, Flag Pond. It is at the end of Long Beach - adjacent to Flag Harbor. Easy/quick access via boat. Beautiful area. The Calvert Cliffs (including south Ann Arundel) are a real treasure. Lucky you.

I keep my S2 9.2C in Flag Harbor going on 4 years now (I live about 3 miles away). I like it because it is small, quiet and friendly. It is also VERY convenient to the Bay. If you have any specific questions you can email me (garylinger at gmail dot com). There website is at "flagharbor.com". It is a condominium marina and slips are for sale or rent (from the owner).

I'll second the good words about John Little and Flag Harbor. my Hunter (Inconceivable!) is up on the hard there now, and I live in the neighborhood. the marina is quiet, and John, Blake and Paul are always helpful.

Hi Marc,

Yes. The Princess Bride is a family favorite!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means ... I can't wait to say that on 16 when someone hails.
