Flag halyard on H260

I want to fly my flags on my H260 from the starboard spreader the same way I do on my H23 but the shrouds are configured differently. As you can see, I have crossing shrouds on the H260 but not on the H23. Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I can fly my flags from the spreader and not have them get tangled up in the shroud? I'm posting this to all sailors in case anyone else has solved the same problem.

I know this setup is NOT the traditional nautical flag-flying custom. We've hashed this out before. My First Mate does not want to fly a large flag from the transom. We both like this look and fly them with the utmost respect and courtesy.

First Off

The Texas flag should not be on the bottom.

That aside how about clipping them to the shroud in question and run them up to the top. They will be at an angle but would never be in the way of the shroud.

I sorta figured you were from Texas by your first comment. Did you once live there? We live in South Carolina. Our granddaughter was visiting from Texas. My First Mate wasn't really sure why I bought the TX flag but I love flying the state flag of our guests at the time. I fly the NY flag when her sisters visit. If my brother-in-law had his way, I would fly the Mets flag instead.

I tried clipping them directly to the shroud with no success. The clips didn't hold well and I couldn't get them very high at all. I like the idea of attaching the block at the top right near the end of the spreader. Thanks for getting my wheels turning.

Make sure your flag halyard is aft of all shrouds and you will be fine most of the time.

I've added signal flag halyards to both spreaders. They tie off on hardware at the base of the life line stanchion adjacent to the mast.

You know, Kermit, if you fly a maximum of 3 flags they should fit in the triangle ... you just need to run the halyard straight down, rather than to the side. On way would be a small block on the deck with the cleat off to the side... the flag clips would be on the vertical line... the other line angled to a shroud cleat clamped to your most convenient place on one of the lowers.

Yes, I am from Texas.

As the flag was flow in honor of a guest I'll cut you some slack on the placement of the flag.

I was thinking another advantage of clipping the flags to the shroud and running them up the shroud. You could fly as many flag as you wanted and they would stay in line along the shroud.

Post a picture of your solution now that you have us all guessing at a solution.

We will be on Austin next month visiting the grandchildren. I *really* want to sail on Lake Travis sometime. Not in the cards for this trip, though.

Maybe there's more room than than appears. Just looks to me that the flags will get tangled on the angled shroud.

Austin is Wonderful

I was out at the Lake Travis Yacht Club about three years ago and was flabbergasted at how much the area had changed in the twenty-five or so years since I lived up there.

Waterskied a lot on Lake Austin and Lake Travis but never sailed there. Canyon Lake about an hour south I thought was a better place to sail.

Always though we'd go back to Texas and retire but we kinda like it here now. Too much stuff to move now. Maybe if the place burns down we'll take our check and drive on over but we are here for the foreseeable future.
