Thinking of a boat trade which would involve trucking my Catalina 270 from Destin, FL to Jacksonville OR sailing her there. I must admit to having the desire to sail her but this would definately be the longest trip I will have made. Wondering if anyone has made this trip before and would wish to share any advice/observations. One decision would be to go via the Keys or take the cut over.... (fun vs. time I suppose). Fair winds!

sail as much

as you can and hire a captain for the rest of the trip. when we bought our C30 in St Pete we hired a captain. I think you will find that is cheaper than shipping by truck.

My trip wasn't quite as long...

I bought my boat over at Ft. Pierce and brought it around to the Tampa Bay area. We went around the outside because of a mast height limitation. It was absolutely one of the finest trips I've ever had. We stopped every other night and the trip took six days and five nights. If you can manage the time, you'll never regret doing it. I've never made the trip across the canal, but I've heard that it also is a great trip...so there are other reasons besides saving time to take it. There is an overhead obstruction that's around 50' but if you can get under that, it would be a nice trip. How about taking one route to deliver your old boat and return in your new one the other route?
