Fixing Hole in Anchor Well

I need to repair a 4" dia. hole in the foredeck area of the anchor well forward of the well itself just aft of the bow pulpit where a Maxwell winch sat. This area is very thick (over one 1"). I'm thinking of using Marine Tex epoxy or 3M Marine premium filler or high - strength repair filler, rather than glass it in. I'd appreciate advice, caveats or insight. Thank you!

Feather first

Yo uwill surely want to grind the hole down, so that there is some sort of cone hsape to it, narrow side down. Then, whatever repair you make will essentially be a molded "plug" that fits in this tapered hole, increase the strength tremendously over simply filling the hole. Becuase the diameter is so large, you would surely want a shallow taper (wider feathered area)
