I'm planning on putting a Yamaha T8 on the back of our Cal 28 with a fixed mount. The only model we've found that's designed for a 4 stroke moter like this is the Panther 55-0435 which goes for $300 and seems like overkill. There must be other fixed mounts that can handle the weight (116 lbs.) but I can't find them.

Outboard Bracket

Check West Marine item # 193328 it is a Garelick rated up to 168 lbs for $249.99 but they will price match. Very strong bracket. Will take up to 30 Hp

Garhauer

Garhauer also makes a mount to hold a heavy four stroke, you might want to consider giving them a call as well.

outboard motor bracket

I just replaced my bracket with a garelick and it wasoriginal replacement equipment. Which means no extra holes in boat to repair but I only carry an 8hp merc 2 stroke. considerably less weight. cost to me with shipping was 150 or 160 I'd have t5o look up the bill.good luck

It's the Torque

I replaced a worn out 2 cycle engine last year - my research and the good experts on this forum pointed out - that it is not the weight of the 4-stroke - but the torque - and the stress of that torque on your bracket - and your transom - so the other good advice I recieved - is to reinforce the bracket connections - especially on the inside of the transom - I had a 4" x 4" x 3/4" plywood pieces for each bolt - with oversize washers - & after a year to reflect - I should have used bigger size bolt - Have FUN!

That's a retractable mount

Joe, the model you propose is a retractable mount and I'm looking for a fixed mount.

Garelick not suited

Jeff, I've investigated all the Garelick models and have their fixed auxiliary mount on my boat already. It's very light duty and not made for 4 stroke motors. I wish Garelick made other fixed mounts but they don't.
