My older boat came two years ago with a folding propellor and for last two seasons I have used it to my satisfaction. I also found on board a fixed propellor. Power is an Atomic 4 gas. I have also had seasoned sailors say one cannot depend on a folding prop and one should use fixed prop only. Home port has strong tidal currents and there is a low bridge near wharf. Prop always provides power to get away from dock and long before the dock area the prop is needed on the return. In other words never turned on in a hurry. If it does not open properly I have gone in reverse and prop has opened. Decision time prior to launch re which is best and would appreciate comments on the pros and cons of either prop..

Folding props have been a staple in SoCal for at least two generations, and failures are very rare. Just inspect it when hauled and have the pin replaced if it gets sloppy. The performance advantage is far too great to ignore. IMHO, Rick D. PS: your fixed prop will look great polished and mounted, on your wall at home.
