Last week I purchased a damaged Catalina 27. The boat drug anchor, hit the bridge, did not drop the mast but broke back stay, pull mast head fitting out and pulled lower chainplte through the deck. Older, frustrated owner jwanted out quick. Needles to say I got deal but need to figure out if feasible to fix and resell, sell to someone looking for a project, or just sell good parts that are left? Has anybody had any experience with this?

I have no experience with this however, I am the original jack-of-all-trades, which is a curse. Without seeing the photos, I'd say install a back stay adjuster, AKA cascading block and tackle, which would require you to shorten and split the back stay anyway. You'd be installing new chain plates about 18" from the center. Use proper caution when installing the back up plates and glass in the holes that were created by the accident. You just turned a cow patty into a rose.

There are so many Cat 27s out there for sale at fantastic prices that I would be hesitant to put time and money into yet another 27 to offer for sale. Friend of mine is presently sailing and racing his 27 that he bought for $1500.

Actually have a beautiful 86 Catalina 27 with diesel power in our harbor for sale. The owner has lost interest due to our sailing area. Don't know how much green you want to spend. The price is excellent for this boat. If interested let me know and can put you in touch with owner. Very well maintained sailboat. No Dog.

Why not fix and sail it ... give it to the kids or give it to a cause & take a tax deduction. If you don't find somebody to take it as is for the money you spent, it's not likely that you can increase the value more than the cost of repairing.

We bought our boat for x ... after spending thousands on upgrades and improvements that we (read I) wanted for our own pleasure, the selling price would still probably be x, especially with today's economy. I doubt I will ever sell the boat ... it will be a gift to somebody at some point in time.
