First off this is my first sailboat. im darn handy at boats or most anything that needs to be done.( im a taxidermist,, so i can bring back the dead!) . I bought this boat last April for $1600, the trailer was $3200, trailer is a shop built and very sturdy, with hydrolic brakes, new tires ETC.its a 2006 From what i can tell this boat was in a storm, didnt sink but took on water, the mast boom is bent and the yanmar motor has been " Pickeled " . First inspection what she has the mast looks strait, but thats all their is, all the things that hold the sail is broken, and the mast step has a 2" chip out of it, talked to "hunter " on this and thay said should ne no problem, but thats not the biggest issue. the mast beem is bent , if laid down on the ground end to end in the middle it is up 5" in the middle. I have removed most of the wood from the inside and refinished it, looks good. put a new water pump in and replaced fuses , lights etc. so now their is light and water thruout( new water hoses, fixtures ). their is no stern rails, i have all the stanchons ready to put back on, the Gangway hatch cover is a poorly made one, not factory and leaks like mad. leaks around the toe rail in a lot of places, it has two top hatches and thay need replacing, as does 3 of the portlights.( no lens )_. In short ( i know to late!) needs all standing rigging, including the mast, boom and step most likley all portlights, yanmar motor removed and rebuilt, has two holes to be filled on hull , one is a broken tranducer, ( it has 3 , one is missing, ) and another from being drilled ( 1/2" hole) to remove standing water i think). Paint all over, ( i have 2 gallons of bottem paint bought allready) she allso has a broken keel bolt . this is most of the big stuff, that needs to be sone, and i see a few boats like this going for $5000 to $12000 with out a trailer, in a lot better shape. i just dont want to spend $15,000 on a boat that is worth when finished is worth $10,000 so whats your thoughts! sell everything thats good and dump the rest, or go for it. Keep the trailer
I'd say sell off the parts, scrap the boat and find another boat that will fit on the trailer. You can probably easily recoup what you paid for the boat by selling the salvagable parts, winches, blocks, sails, etc.

If the boat did not "Sink" and only took on water the engine may be very usable but try to get it running first because that may well be a high priced item (if in good condition) I would list everything that is not broken (rudder,prop,shaft everything)or list several and make mention that you are parting out the whole boat. You may even be able to sell it as a parts boat if you don't want to mess with stripping it yourself and then having to get rid of the carcass. The other thought is maybe you can buy a sister-ship that you can use some of the part to update,repair etc. etc. Nice looking trailer and I would bet you could get what you paid for it or very close if you decided to sell it also. I have the same boat as you and did the same thing. The difference was my H27 had a bigger, newer Yanmar with low hours and a 2 year old Hood genoa. It needed a main, the cockpit floor replaced and the topsides painted. I am also very handy and have rehabed sailboats before. I bought a full batten main off this site in excellent condition for $500. and have spent about $1000 on materials and boatyard labor, for the things I could not do. MY boat is primed and the cockpit sole is finished. When the weather warms I will gelcoat the non-skid and the boat yard will spray on AWLGRIP. I will also put in new cushions(its what I do for a living). I am looking at spending about $6000-$7000 total between materials, outside labor and initial purchase price for a boat that will look almost as good as new. What could I sell it for 1981 H27, $7000- $10000 if I'm lucky Your boat, look at Ebay to see what parts will sell for, then start by listing it on Craigslist. Its free and its local. Ebay reaches a broader market, bot if you're not careful you could spend a lot on fees and aggrevation on non-paying bidders. If you were closer to Ma. I would buy some of your wood work. Good luck.
